World Book Day

In Year 5, we had an exciting day celebrating World Book Day and it was great to see the effort the children had put in to dressing up as a word.

We started off with a live Footy and Booky quiz all about football and World Book Day before joining in a live lesson.

During the live lesson we looked at all the different genres of books, what type of books we love reading the most, where we most enjoy reading a book and we had to guess the identity of an author through a series of clues. The children shared some amazing ideas about what non-fiction topics they would love to read about and where they enjoy reading the most such as in their bedrooms at home or in the library.

In the afternoon, we designed our own book covers and had a go at writing our own non-fiction instructional texts. Overall, we had a great day sharing our love for reading and getting involved in all the fun activities!

Tyreece - “Roald Dahl is my favourite author and the Twits is my favourite book by him. I enjoy reading in my bedroom the most because it is comfortable and relaxing.”

Ebonie - “I like reading books that are mysterious, magical and interesting. My favourite place to read is on my beanbag in my bedroom.”

Emily - “I enjoy reading because I always want to find out what is going to happen next. My favourite books are the Diary of a Wimpy Kid stories by Jeff Kinney.”
