Black and British

Throughout this half term, in our whole class Reading lessons, 5BC have been reading a non-fiction text all about the history of black people in Britain. The book is called Black and British by David Olusoga.

This interesting and thought-provoking book focuses on the history of black people in Britain from the Roman times through to the late part of the 20th century. During these lessons, we have looked at the changing attitudes of Britain and the vital role black people have played throughout British history. Furthermore, we have compared British attitudes to those of other countries such as America at different time periods over the past 2000 years.

Edward - "This book is really interesting and I believe it is important to know all about the history of the country we live in."

Chetachi - "I think it is great to learn about how black people have contributed to Britain and the challenges they have faced and overcome throughout history."
