Year 6 author visit

Year 6 welcomed Matt Goodfellow to Peel Hall to talk about his novel, The Final Year. The Final Year talks about the experiences of an individual pupil and how he navigates his way towards the end of Primary School.

 Matt Goodfellow was supposed to be a rock star and from the age of 13, was playing in bands and writing songs. When the music career failed to take off, Matt became a primary school teacher and the songs became poems.

Matt Goodfellow writes poems about three things: his life, lives that he’s seen and parts that are fictional. Many of Matt’s poems focus on navigating the peaks and troughs of life often touching on his own troubled upbringing.

The children were inspired about Matt’s journey in becoming an author and took away one key message;

“Your pen is your voice.”
