Working Together for Success

Science

The Science Curriculum is organised to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
  • Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of Science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them

Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of Science, today and for the future.

At Peel Hall Primary School from 2020, we will be using the ‘PZAZ’ scheme.

The scheme of work links directly to the objectives in the National Curriculum and ensures all the statutory requirements are covered. Working scientifically skills are embedded throughout and explicitly taught in such a way that all children will be engaged and enjoy their learning.
Working scientifically focuses on the key aspects of scientific enquiry which enable pupils to investigate and answer scientific questions. Children will experience a good range of scientific enquiries using both indoors and outdoors throughout the year.

Throughout the teaching of Science children will be exposed to a range of scientific vocabulary and the expectation is that they acquire this specific language using concrete apparatus and real life situation.

In addition to science lessons, visitors are invited into school so that the children can participate in a range of first hand experiences such as hatching eggs in EYFS, the “Wild Road Show,” which involve the children handing a range of wildlife such as snakes and the bearded dragons to support their learning about the Rainforest, habitats, adaptation and evolution. Portable Planetarium delivered shows which teach children all about the incredible world of space. We also have trips to various farms, aquariums and zoos.

Where possible science is linked closely to the themes that are being taught so that application of cross curricular skills can be applied. The afore mentioned are examples of how we enhanced our children’s cultural capital and combat barriers to learning.
