Spring 1 –
The children settled back into school after the Christmas break really well, and we have been learning about some really exciting topics. We started a new topic focusing on Geography skills such as Map reading and following co-ordinates. The children really enjoyed learning these skills, and even created their own maps of the school.
In our science lessons we have focused on working scientifically. The children have been really engaged with our topic on states of matter, the children have developed their scientific understanding through questioning, predicting, investigating and evaluating. We have used lots of hands on experiments to immerse the children in their learning. Their favourite was creating their own miniature water cycles!
Year 4 have been learning about Judaism in their R.E lessons. The class have enjoyed learning about the Jewish culture and enjoyed tasting the cedar plate for the Passover meal.
Autumn 2 –
At the start of Autumn 2, Year 4 performed a fantastic assembly on ‘The Rainforest’, which was a great success. Following our assembly, we started to learn about our new topic ‘The Mayan Civilisation’. We have really enjoyed learning about the Mayan culture and what they did in their everyday lives. From the activities / festivals they celebrated, the different types of food they used to eat and the different types of clothes and headdresses they wore. The children even created their own Mayan masks!
Year 4 have also made fantastic progress in their swimming this half term. All children have received their shark certificate for basic swimming skills, and many also receiving 10m, 25m certificates too.
We have been learning about Christianity in R.E this half term, we have done a lot of work about Christingle in preparation for our Christingle service. The children have also created their own advent calendars in time for Christmas!
