Dear Parents/carers,
This morning a fire break point was smashed at approximately 9:45am. This activated the fire alarm which in turn activated a response from the fire brigade. All procedures were followed and the children were all evacuated safely and calmly in under 2 minutes. I am immensely proud of how our children responded and how the staff responded as at this time, it was not a planned drill.
Due to the fact that the alarm, after the building had been searched by the fire brigade, could still not be switched off, we implemented as part of our critical incident procedure an evacuation procedure which involved all our children going to another school. Again, I am tremendously proud of how our children behaved and were so responsive to what they were being asked to do. The decision was made in order to ensure that the welfare and safety of our children was our main priority.
All fire alarm systems have now been reinstated but I wish to inform you of this incident so that you know and hopefully feel reassured that systems and practises are in place to ensure the wellbeing of your children. It is also to inform you of the incident so that if your child comes home tonight and talks about this exciting event, you will be in a position to also reassure them, and explain how well they behaved today and how very proud we all are of them.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to come and see me.
Kind regards,
Mr M.D. Hallam
